A half court 3v3 game that teaches help defense and rotations, while the offense works on its drive and kick reads.
Setup:
Teams of three and two cones above the top of the key. 1 starts at the top with the ball, x1 next to them. 2 and 3 are in the corners, with x2 and x3 in help position. The next team waits on the baseline.
Rules:
On go, 1 drives the slot on either side and x1 recovers around the other cone. x3 helps from the weak side, x1 peels off to the open corner and x2 stays home. The offense reads the help: finish, kick to the open corner or attack the closeout.
A score keeps the offense on and the next team defends. A stop, a turnover or a possession over 10 seconds sends the defense to offense and the offense off.
Coaching points:
- Help comes from the weak side; the strong-side corner stays home.
- The beaten defender peels off to the open corner.
- On offense, make the pass early: an extra dribble gives the help time to arrive.
Progression:
Play the same game 4v4 and 5v5.
